Tadashi Shoji’s Russian Inspired Fall/Winter 2013-2014 Collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Tadashi Shoji’s Fall/Winter 2013-2014 Collection was inspired by cold Russian winters.  The show started with dramatic music and the pattern of falling snow was projected on the background.  It felt like you were inside a movie more than a fashion show with the music thundering inside the tent.  The collection was filled with the season’s trends of lace and lace overlays.  I was a particular fan of the capelets on a few of the dresses, particularly the one with a blue lace overlay that would make for a fabulous “Something Blue” for a winter bride.  For the fashion conscious bride if you want get your bridesmaids a unique dress that will likely compliment your dress well, I suggest the taupe/gray number with the bow belt.  It was a short length and was very versatile and could actually be worn again after the wedding at a variety of functions.  Many of the white dresses could easily be transformed into one of a kind wedding dresses with varying degrees of alterations.

During this show I learned to never be in the corner of the riser near the steady cam.  This roving camera for the house kept roving right into my shot.  So for those of you out there shooting Fashion Week for the first time, always be mindful of the camera cranes when picking your spot!
