PanCan 2010, DC

Prior to quitting my day job to become a full time photographer, I worked at a place that did a great deal of philanthropy.  Our head of HR had many connections to people who had died of pancreatic cancer.  She was heading up the registration desk at the very first Purple Stride in DC.  So my husband and I volunteered to help with the registration.  After registration was finished I took photos of the participants and my husband got their email addresses if they wanted to see the images.  We sent out the link to the photos and offered the hi-res files free of charge.  It was really astonishing to see the thousands of people who showed up that day because either they had pancreatic cancer or someone in their life had it.  One man came all the way from the UK to support his late friend’s family.  By the end, I was very very touched and only wished I could do more.
This guy came all the way from the UK for the walk
This little guy had just finished a popsicle on what was a very hot morning
All the staff from Ridgewells Catering came out for the Chef
This group definitely had the most creative team name, “The Flying Purple Cancer Beaters”
