Headshots at ASICS’ East Coast Headquarters in Boston

When the opportunity to shoot in ASICS’ new “creation studio” presented itself I leapt at it. Their office was perfect for environmental portraits with all the amazing interior features.  After running through the place I settled on their open concept kitchen with a VERSA WALL® as a backsplash. The verdant ASICS “A” logo, made up entirely of living plants, was just too good to pass up.  Within 30 feet of the kitchen there was a small room that I was able to use for traditional headshots with pure white knock out backgrounds.  This close proximity made it nice for my subjects so they didn’t have to dash very far between shots, and I was able to stay tethered to my computer the whole time to boot!

Here are a few of my favorites from the day.

After the shoot the client felt I had put my best foot forward and was so happy with the headshots they sent me ASICS shoes for my whole family.  While my children were excited to try on the new kicks, I was even more excited to have a bunch of spotless new sneakers to photograph for fun in the studio, so they had to wait until Mama had her time with their shoes before they got to wear them outside. Here were the results:

Fucci’s Photos is now Vail Fucci Photography

Christmas morning, 2009, my husband, Matt, gave me the most wonderful gift.  At the time, I had no idea just how much it would mean to me.  I had been working the DC political scene and was getting pretty burnt out from the polarization going on in Washington.  He could tell I needed a change.  So he gave me the best Christmas surprise…EVER!  He created the LLC for a photography company.  Matt named it Fucci’s Photos, LLC.  I had no idea just how transformative this amazing gift would be.  Matt gave me the kick in the butt I needed to make the huge leap from a Ph.D. in bioethics to professional photographer.  I don’t know if I would have ever been brave enough to do this myself if it wasn’t for his complete support in this venture. I am still mind blown that I went from shooting weddings in peoples’ basements and school gyms, to shooting New York Fashion week and being named Boston’s Best Wedding Photographer by CBSBoston. It has been an incredible ride that I am thrilled to still be on.

Being a professional photographer is a job I love with all my heart.  When I am on a shoot, people say you can actually see the corners of my mouth peeking out around the camera because my smile is so big since I am just so very happy.  It is the job I was meant to do, and it is a wonderful flexible career to have, especially now that we have two children.  As they have gotten older, my weekends have become occupied with dance classes and sports practices, but my weekdays are freeing up as they are in school more and more.  So I realized I had to make a change, my business needed to evolve.  My primary focus would no longer be weddings.  I will limit myself to just 5 weddings a year now.  I love shooting weddings too much to stop doing them all together! In their place, I will be focusing much more on teaching lessons, shooting headshots, events, and commercial product photography. Along with the change also comes a new name for the business.  Unfortunately, I learned the hard way, having an apostrophe in your business name is never a good idea.  The spelling gets very confusing for people and is even worse for website SEO.  So I finally took the plunge and decided to change the business name to Vail Fucci Photography. Here’s our new logo.

At the same time I migrated my website from FuccisPhotos.com over to VailFucci.com and also changed it from http:// to the more secure and current https://.  I am in the process of setting up the 301 redirects, but if you have my old site bookmarked, be sure to note the new URL. During this new phase of the business I am also trying to use Instagram more.  I have always been more of a Facebook girl myself, but I have realized it is a social media platform I just can’t ignore as a photographer.  With each photo that I post, I try to give a tip in the caption as to how it was taken, so that my followers can have more to take away than just an engaging image. If you want to check it out, my handle on Instagram is @VailFucci.

I am so very excited to be able to get back to shooting on a more regular basis.  As always, if I have a camera in my hand, I am happy. Thank you to all who have supported Fucci’s Photos along this journey.  I am energized for this new chapter in my business.  I can’t wait to see where it will take me next.

Anna Sui Features Vail Fucci’s Image on Instagram for Anna Sui Vision

Up until now I have considered myself more of a Facebook girl than an Instagrammer.  I’ve been a using Facebook back since its inception in 2004! But maybe I should pay Instagram a bit more attention.  In 2013 when I shot New York Fashion week one of my images from the Betsey Johnson show ended up on the New York Time’s Website in their fashion and style section.  I was OVERJOYED!  But I thought it was a one off and didn’t give Instagram much time since that fashion week.  But then, last night I randomly check my Instagram feed for the first time in months and what do I see under the notifications tab…AnnaSuiVision tagged you in a post.  It was a photo I took during fashion week 2013 from one of Anna Sui’s runway shows. I scroll down and see that in the comments THE Anna Sui has put hearts and xxx’s and signed it Anna! I nearly fell over and I sure was too excited to sleep. So now that I am getting more into product photography with Ame & Lulu perhaps I should start to give Instagram the credit it is due and post a bit more often.
