Nadia and Omar, recent graduates of Georgetown’s Masters in Diplomacy, are a testament that love truly conquers all. Nadia’s mother is American and father is from Afghanistan, and Omar’s father is Pakistani and mother is Indian. Georgetown’s Imam spoke during their ceremony about what a great model Nadia and Omar (as well as their parents) are for the future couples of the world, bringing so many cultures together seemlessly. The ceremony incorporated Muslim, Jewish, and Western wedding traditions. The reception was a true melting pot as well with music ranging from Britney to Bollywood.
In addition to Nadia and Omar being great statesmen they proved to be great partiers. During the touching toasts they made to each other, Nadia graced the guests and her new husband with her surprisingly good rap skillz. The two of them mastered the few ballroom dance moves I had shown them, incorporated them into their first dance to Elton John’s “Your song”, and then half way through broke into a comical rendition of Hall & Oats’ “You Make My Dreams Come True” which got all their guests on their feet.
This is a shot from one of my favorite moments of the night when Van Halen’s JUMP came on.
Hopefully the photos below will give you a flavor for this wonderful and hilarious wedding.
